The news we were all dreading has come to pass today with Conor McGregor’s Superfight against Rafael Dos Anjos cancelled because of an injury to the Brazilian. The news was reported by Brazilian reporter Anna Hissa and confirmed by MMAFighting.com sources.
A foot injury is the reported cause of the pull-out.
According to the MMA Fighting, the UFC is working in finding a replacement on two week’s notice.
Dos Anjos, the reigning lightweight champion, won his belt from Anthony Pettis last year before defending it against Donald Cerrone.
Oddly, Cerrone now may be an option to stand-in for the Brazilian against McGregor with names like Frankie Edgar and Tony Ferguson also in the mix.
Stay tuned for further updates.
Edgar is injured.
Everything is happening too perfectly… It is ALL rigged in favor of revenue to the UFC. None of us is complaining though. I’m sure Dos Anjos (who is not injured) will be pissed off
for another 3 months.
Cerrone just had his comeback-win (and a great cult-following). I love him also. Connor gets to have his time on-air telling the world “what a pussy Dos Anjos is”. Edgar gets to stand on the side-lines and yell for his opportunity, and Dos Anjos gets to grunt just a bit more. The rest of the world can be split between believing in Connor or submitting to the super-bull-Raphael. As much as I love Cowboy, he’s the odd one out here. The best thing is, Cowboy DOES NOT care :-). The UFC makes as much money as possible, and we all get the best possible fight-soap-opera possible…
