UFC 200 officially has a new main event this afternoon with UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier taking on pound-for-pound king Jon Jones. The news was broken on good morning America in the states.

As is well documented at this stage, Conor McGregor vs. Nathan Diaz was initially set to headline the UFC’s summer tentpole event but McGregor was pulled from the card when he chose to concentrate on training rather than attending a UFC press-conference.
Instead, another rematch takes the main-event spot as the light-heavyweight belts are are unified over five rounds.
In their first meeting, Jones came out on top over Cormier in a fight which was competitive to begin with but which Jones ran away with in the end.
Since then, Jones has been stripped of the title for multiple indiscretions with the law and Cormier picked up the vacant strap against Anthony Johnson before defending it against Alexander Gustsfsson. His second title defence was due to be against Jones last week at UFC 197 but an injury forced him out of that as Jones went on to beat Ovince St-Preux in an uninspiring unanimous decision to pick up the interim title.
UFC 200 is set to take place on July 9th at the brand new T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas, keep it locked to SevereMMA for updates at the card approaches.
