The two top light-heavyweights in the history of mixed martial arts will meet for the second time at UFC 214 on July 29th in Anaheim as the UFC announced the much anticipated rematch between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier this evening.
MMAFighting first broke the news.
Jones, the long time 205 lbs champion and consensus greatest of all time at the weight, was stripped of his title shortly after beating Cormier at UFC 182 in 2015 due to a hit-and-run incident where he left a pregnant driver of an oncoming car with a broken arm.
Four months later, Cormier won a then vacant version of that same title, beating Anthony Johnson at UFC 187, and has held it ever since.
UFC 214 will be the third scheduling of the rematch after the pair were due to fight at both UFC 197 and UFC 200. An injury to Cormier lead to Jones winning an interim title at UFC 197 which was later stripped as, just days before UFC 200, he was popped by USADA for what later turned out to be a sexual performance enhancer.
Now, with Jones’ suspension coming to an end and Cormier injury free, it looks like the pair will finally settle this long standing feud at UFC 214.
