A fantastic week for Irish amateur MMA ended today with 5 medals at the IMMAF/WMMAA world championships in Bahrain.
SBG’s Lee Hammond won gold this evening after Owen Roddy uber prospect Ger Harris earlier in the day also took top honours. Corkman Ryan Spillane will also be an amateur world champion as his opponent failed to take to the scale. Silver medals on day also came the way of Paddy Wilkinson and Trevor Makengo.
Hat tip to Petesy Carroll for the fantastic coverage, check out his tweets below.
Ireland’s Lee Hammond defeats Finland’s Marko Sarasjärvi to claim the unified lightweight world championship via split decision. Great back and forth fight. #MMAWorlds2018

Ireland's Ger Harris becomes the unified junior flyweight amateur world champion after a sudden death round with Russia's Shamil Bahachaliev. Harris threatened endlessly over the 12 minutes with submission attempts. Great win for the Owen Roddy prospect.

As far as I know, Ireland’s Ryan Spillane will be crowned heavyweight IMMAF champion later today as his opponent Chaddad Alexandre, from Team Lebanon, did not attend the morning weigh-ins.
