The announcement of Joe Duffy’s retirement on Saturday night left no Irish fighters in the UFC. That stat didn’t stick around for long as UFC proceeded to add Rhys McKee (10-2-1) into their ranks.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto first broke the news that the Next Generation trained fighter is set to fight Swede Khamzat Chimaev (7-0-0). Chimaev himself recently competed on the last weeks midweek fight card on Yas Island. He put on a very impressive performance submitting SBG trained fighter John Phillips on the night.
The Swedish fighter will test his skills against Belfast man McKee in the welterweight division. McKee who is on a three fight win streak last competed at Cage Warriors 110. He knocked out Hakan Foss in the very first round that night. The former Cage Warriors lightweight title is undefeated while fighting at welterweight in his career.
