Following news earlier today of Eddie Alvarez’s release from Bellator, UFC president Dana White announced via his twitter tonight that Alvarez will face Donald Cerrone at UFC 178 on 27th September in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Cerrone had been scheduled to face Bobby Green at the same event, however he will now face a yet to be determined replacement on a later card.

The bout will serve as the co-main event with flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson taking on Chris Cariaso in the main event.
Also on the card, Conor McGregor faces number 5 ranked Dustin Poirier in the featherweight division.
