Great news today for mixed martial arts fans in Ireland as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) this morning announced that the Octagon is coming back to Dublin later this year. The event, which goes down at the 3Arena (formally the Point Depot), will take place on October 24th, fifteen months after the promotion’s last visit to the Emerald Isle.
That event in July of last year was the second ever event in the Republic’s capital and saw Irish fighters go undefeated with current UFC featherweight contender Conor McGregor beating Brazilian Diego Brandao in the main event.
Five years prior to that, the UFC came to Dublin for the first time and featured fighters like Dan Henderson, Rich Franklin, Marcus Davis, Mark Coleman and Irishman Tom Egan in his one and only UFC outing.
The quick return for the third event in October is largely down to the popularity Conor McGregor has given the sport in mainstream Irish society. And although he is unlikely to feature in the event, Irish fighters like Cathal Pendred, Neil Seery, Paul Redmond, Ais Daly, Norman Parke and Paddy Holohan all have big chances of featuring.
Tickets go on sale on 4th September 2015.
