1 thought on “Video – Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo staredown at ‘Go Big’ Press Conference

  1. Just watched the full #GoBig presser. Very entertaining. So many laugh out loud moments throughout and nearly every one of them from McGregor.

The presser felt like Mcgregor was calling out every 145er and 155er sitting up there. The only potential opponents that McGregor didn’t look like he got to was Frankie Edgar and Joe Duffy. Both men appeared reserved and nicely composed. I’m sure Dustin Poirier was happy to be sitting all the way up at the back out of the verbal firing range having endured this kind of goading prior to his fight with Conor.

Mendez, Cerrone, Dos Anjos and particularly Aldo looked and reacted like McGregor really got to them. Every verbal exchange McGregor came out on top. From my reading of these exchanges none of these Americans or Brazillians can deal with the ‘Dublin wit’ and the to-and-fro of ‘Irish Slagging’.

To tell the truth, Aldo already looks mentally beat. His lack of english, in my opinion, really plays on him in this kind of setting. Another weapon in Conors mental arsenal, in their pre-fight battles. Aldo looked like he’d rather be anywhere else other than sitting oppositeMcGregor enduring the crowd reacting to his every taunt.

Even with his rough, crude and vulgar language, Conor totally stole the show. This persona he’s cultivated over the last few years really eats away at these other fighters. Obviously, this is part of his fight plan, to chip away at them mentally but it’s something else altogether to witness it in action. What a tactic to employ! Lining grudge match after grudge match up even though the chances are he won’t get to fight all these guys McGregor’s still planning ahead.

Conor’s having such an effect on the UFC at the moment that Matt Browns wife made him dress up in a suit for this event. I can connect with that having a wife that insists I wear a suit on occansions when I’d rather a pair of jean and a T-shirt. (I’m with you Matt!)

The thing that intrigues me about McGregor is how he’ll deal with that first high profile defeat? He’s smart enough to realise that it’ll happen at some point, be it by a better opponent or a lucky strike. Having built himself up to the level he has we’ll truly see what he’s made of when it happens.

    Unless he retires undefeated……
