Major news has arrived just hours before today’s weigh-in for UFC 192.
The highly anticipated welterweight co-main event between Johny Hendricks and Tyron Woodley has been cancelled, and according to UFC President Dana White, it’s because Hendricks is having problems with his weight cut.
Hendricks was rushed to the emergency room yesterday evening. According to his manager Ted Ehrhardt, he suffered a blockage in his intestine late last night whilst cutting weight, as well as developing a kidney stone. He was taken into ER immediately and placed on an IV.
Weight cutting has been a publicised problem for Hendricks in recent fights. He had initially missed weight for his first title fight vs. Robbie Lawler at UFC 171 before making it on his second attempt. Earlier in the year, Hendricks stated that he almost retired after a “terrible UFC 181 weight cut” for the Lawler rematch, and also contemplated a move to middleweight. Now he’s off of tomorrow’s card altogether after his sudden ill health.
As a result, the leading BT Sport 2 / Fox Sports 1 preliminary card match-up between Joseph Benavidez and Ali Bagautinov is bumped up to the PPV main card. Presumably Ryan Bader vs. Rashad Evans is the new co-main event. Islam Makhachev vs. Adriano Martins has been promoted to the FS1 prelims.
UFC 192: Cormier vs. Gustafsson takes place tomorrow (Saturday 3rd October) at 3am BST on BT Sport 2.
