He’s baaaaaaaaack.
It’s official, Jon Jones is back and, in the worst kept secret in the UFC, will take on Daniel Cormier – the man who won the light-heavyweight title that he was stripped of. The bout will take place on April 23rd at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas and headline UFC 197.
The fight will be a rematch of a January 2015 meeting of the pair which saw Jones dismantle Cormier over five rounds to win a decision.
Unfortunately, that was the last time Jones stepped inside the Octagon as a year of madness which included cocaine, rehab, hit and runs, court dates and more put him into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
In his absence Cormier defeated Anthony Johnson to claim the vacant title before also defeating Alexander Gustafsson in a ‘fight of the year’ candidate.
Now, with all that in the past the sworn enemies get to do the dance again in what is sure to be one of the most hotly anticipated fights of the year.
Also announced as the co-main event is the flyweight bout between champion Demetrious Johnson and Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo which shapes up as one of the best fights to date at 125lbs.
