Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson has his next dance partner.
The only ever 125 lbs champion will meet Brazilian Wilson Reis at UFC 201 in the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The fight will likely act as a co-main event to the welterweight title fight between Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley.
The news was announced on UFC tonight this Wednesday.
BREAKING: Demetrious Johnson vs. Wilson Reis booked for Flyweight Title Bout at UFC 201 (Per @MeganOlivi)
— UFC Tonight (@UFCTonight) May 19, 2016
Reis is 20-6 in his career and will be best known to Irish fans for his epic fight with Dubliner Owen Roddy at Cage Warriors 50 back in 2012. Since then he has won four of six fights in the UFC and gets a title shot after defeating Dustin Ortiz in January.
Like all challengers at flyweight, though, he has a tough task in front of him with “Mighty Mouse.”
Now 24-2-1, Johnson has been imperious since picking up the 125 lbs gold. Names like Benavidez, Horiguchi and Moraga have all been easily dispatched while, maybe most impressively, “DJ” took out Olympic wrestling gold medalist Henry Cejudo in under three minutes last time out.
UFC 201 takes place on July 30th, 2016, keep it locked to SevereMMA for updates at the date nears.
