It looks like Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor is back on.
After being originally set for UFC 200 and then cancelled due to McGregor refusing to attend a press-conference, today Ariel Helwani is reporting that the McGregor and Diaz scrap is “close to being finalized” for UFC 202.
It is likely to serve as the main event and will be contested at 170lbs if the initial planned rematch is anything to go by.
In their first outing, at UFC 196, McGregor entered as a big favourite but was submitted in the second round after Diaz weathered the early storm.
In the initial aftermath of the fight many, including McGregor himself, assumed a return to 145 lbs against Frankie Edgar or Jose Aldo, where he remains champion, would be next.
But that all changed when pay-per-view figures came back with a reported 1.5 million buy rate.
