The highly anticipated welterweight showdown between Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal has been pulled from December’s UFC 269 card. Brett Okamoto of ESPN confirmed the news via Hunter Campbell, who acts as UFC’s Chief Business Officer. Former welterweight title challenger Jorge Masvidal has suffered an undisclosed injury and is unable to compete.
As things stand, it is unclear weather Edwards will remain on the card or if the UFC have plans to reschedule the fight. The welterweight showdown was a highlight contest on the main card of UFC 269 which is set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Although this will prove to be a big blow to the card itself, fans still have two title fight to look forward to on the night. Amanda Nunes will defend her bantamweight title against Julianna Peña in the co-main event. Charles Oliveira will put his lightweight title on the line when he takes on number one contender Dustin Poirier in the main event on the last PPV card of 2021.
